Inspections & Problem Resolutions
I am experienced with many types of inspections and their required documentation.
Inspections and sign offs during the regular course of project, system, material supply, or equipment fabrication, and as it may be required for payment milestones, quality hold points, or preliminary inspections that insure a required formal review or inspection is ready to proceed.
Some of these inspections may require:
A) Review of accepted documents, drawings, fillings and permits prior to purchasing materials and supplies.
B) Supplies and material inspections that arrive on site and their required documents, markings, storage, sequencing, protection, and preservation.
C) Normal material markings and test reports, special prefabrication, or layouts.
D) Hold Point inspections that assure fabrication, hardware and equipment is ready for the next step in the sequence.
E) Witness required testing or procedures during fabrication or completion.
F) Final or factory acceptance inspection prior to the system or equipment being shipped to site.
These above normal type inspections all required documentation and agreement prior to the work and inspections taking place and acceptance sign offs during inspections.
Unfortunately, many of the inspections I also perform are due to a failing or failed system or piece of equipment. In many cases time is of the essence to inspect the system or equipment and form an immediate repair plan that will avoid future problems or in the worst case a system or plant shutdown.
These type inspections require:
A) Review the site system or equipment to assess and understand the current condition, extent of any damages and what needs to be done to resolve the problems and make required repairs.
B) If required determine temporary work arounds and their risks that would be able to keep the system or equipment running until replacement parts can be obtained and proper repairs implemented.
C) Make recommendations that could help and or speed up the repair process.
D) Determine the root cause of the problem condition and recommend changes, maintenance, or even upgrades to avoid repeating the problem situation again.
E) The system or equipment must be shut down and repaired to avoid even bigger problems.
To document inspections I take notes and pictures to prepare a detailed report of all the findings.
In addition to reporting the current conditions I will make conclusions and suggestions as to what caused the current condition, and what can be done.
For my inspection reports I normally prepare a PowerPoint presentation type report.
The report slides with pictures, mark-ups, and comments make it easier to see and understand inspection findings.
Also report can be reviewed and presented during a meeting with all concerned.
If required I can also prepare detailed repair plans with procedures, 2d drawings, and or 3D models.
